ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's golf team will open play this Sunday against some of the best teams in the country at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in nearby Windermere. This three-day, three-round tournament is held at the Isleworth Golf and Country Club and regarded as the premiere collegiate tournament in the country. Isleworth consistently ranks as one of the longest and most difficult courses in the state of Florida and is home to a number of world-renowned PGA professionals.
The invitation only event will feature nine of the top-25 teams in the nation including defending champion No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 3 Florida, No. 5 Alabama, No. 6 Texas, No. 9 LSU, No. 11 Georgia, No. 16 Stanford, and is hosted by No. 18 Texas Tech.
Teeing off for the Knights will be freshman Greg Eason (Leicester City, England), who claimed medalist honors at the Adam's Cup of Newport this season, and junior Connor Arendell (Cape Coral, Fla.), who earned medalist honors at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate. Both Eason and Arendell earned Conference USA Player of the Week honors last month. Sophomore Reid Martin (Mukilteo, Wash.), junior Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) and senior Nuno Henriques (Funchal, Portugal) will round out the rest of the Knights lineup.
Texas Tech is hosting the event at Isleworth. The tournament is not open to the public, but live statistics will be available at Golfstat.com each day.
The Knights have played in this tournament since its inception in 2004. During last year's event the Knights tied for 13th and Henriques was the squad's top finisher tying for 25th. Schneider, Arendell and Martin also competed in the event.
UCF is off to a strong start this season as they have placed in the top-5 in two out of their three events. The Isleworth tournament will serve as the last event of the fall for the Knights. They will resume play in February at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville.
