ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF women's soccer goalkeeper Aline Reis (Campinas, Brazil) was selected as the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week Monday, which was her seventh weekly honor of her career. That enabled Reis to tie St. Louis' Meghann Burke for the most Defensive Player of the Week awards in conference history.
Reis has received C-USA weekly honors twice this season, while she also picked up one last season and four during her All-American campaign as a freshman in 2008.
The junior opened up her weekend at Colorado College Oct. 15 where she matched her career-high with 10 saves and surrendered just one goal. Reis' effort allowed the Knights to stay in the match for the full 90 minutes although the Tigers were able to hold on for the 1-0 win.
Two days later in Texas, Reis produced four more saves in net for a 4-0 victory at UTEP. With 14 saves on the weekend, she now has 62 on the year and 251 for her career (third all-time at UCF). The shutout over the Miners also was her third of 2010 and the 16th in three seasons as a Knight.
Reis and her teammates will be back in action at home this weekend. UCF (10-3-3, 5-1-2) sits in second place in the C-USA standings, and will host Tulsa Friday at 7 p.m. and SMU Sunday at 1 p.m. The Knights will finish the regular season in Orlando as well by welcoming Southern Miss to town Oct. 29. That sets up the C-USA Championship at the UCF Soccer Complex Nov. 3-7.
