When UCF (3-2, 1-0) has the ball:
In a convincing win against UAB last week, the Knights' offense totaled 399 yards, 228 of those yards coming on the ground. The rushing attack included six different Knights, with quarterback Jeff Godfrey leading the way gaining 80 yards on nine rushing attempts. Tailback Ronnie Weaver carried the ball 21 times for the Knights amassing 50 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Rob Calabrese, tailbacks Brendan Kelly and Latavius Murray and wide receiver Quincy McDuffie all made key contributions to the Knights dominant run game. Look for the Knights to continue the ground and pound game against the Thundering Herd behind the blocking of right tackle Jah Reid. Godfrey and Calabrese were equally effective through the air as on the ground, with Godfrey connecting on 9-of-11 passes for 137 yards and Calabrese 3-of-3 passing with a touchdown. Wide receiver Jamar Newsome caught three passes for 68 yards including a spectacular grab giving the Knights the ball inside the red-zone in the second quarter. Wide receiver Brian Watters also had three receptions, connecting on a four yard score from Calabrese. The Knights balanced attack could pose a problem on the conferences 10th-rated scoring defense, as Marshall is allowing 35.4 points per game.
When Marshall (1-4, 0-1) has the ball:
Senior quarterback Brian Anderson has completed 57.8 percent of his passes this year, while redshirt freshman A.J. Graham was brought in at Southern Miss and went 8-for-10 for 89 yards Oct. 2. Marshall is minus-5 in the turnover margin, tossing five picks and losing five of 12 fumbles. Two players lead the ground attack as Martin Ward has rushed for 250 yards, and Andre Booker has accounted for 198 rushing yards. In the air, Antavious Wilson has amassed five touchdown catches and 272 yards on 21 receptions. But the Thundering Herd will have to contend with one of the nation's best defenses, as the Knights rank in the top 10 in passing defense, total defense, scoring defense and passing efficiency defense.
Did you know?
Prior to the 2010 season, UCF had won its first league game twice (2005, 2007), advancing to the C-USA Championship game in both seasons, and is on a seven-game regular season win streak in C-USA...UCF has won five-consecutive games against Marshall, the most recent in 2009 at Bright House Networks Stadium on a touchdown reception by wide receiver Rocky Ross with 23 seconds left to play...Opponents have reached the red zone just eight times against the UCF defense, and only two other teams in the country have limited offenses to less trips inside the 20 (TCU and West Virginia).
