LA QUINTA, Calif. (UCFAthletics.com) - Play began Sunday at the Prestige at PGA WEST and the UCF men's golf team is tied for 11th after one round of play at the Stadium Course. UCF recorded a 301 (+13) during the opening round.
Five top-25 squads are playing at the tournament. The three-day event will resume Monday.
No. 22 Cal leads the field at 2-under 286, followed by Arizona State at 290 (+2). The Knights are tied with Vanderbilt for 11th in the 15-team tournament.
Junior Connor Arendell (Cape Coral, Fla.) had the best opening round among the five Knights in California. He is tied for eighth at 1-under 71. Fellow junior Brad Schneider is tied for 24th at 2-over 74.
Senior Nuno Henriques (Funchal, Portugal) posted a 4-over 76 and is tied at 38th. Sophomore Reid Martin (Mukilteo, Wash.) and freshman Greg Eason (Leicester City, England) are also participating in the event. Martin is tied for 69th (80, +8) and Eason is tied for 78th (85, +13).
The event is the third of the fall campaign for the Knights. In its last tournament, UCF claimed the title at the Adams' Cup of Newport in Rhode Island on Sept. 21.
UCF competed in La Quinta last season and placed 10th.
