ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - A special spring edition of Holding Court with Todd Dagenais is now available to be viewed online at UCFAthletics.com. The show, which is hosted by Jeff Sharon, can be watched free of charge via Knights' All-Access Player.
In the inaugural spring edition of the webcast, Dagenais and Sharon recap UCF volleyball's spring season, as well as discuss the Knights' 2010 recruiting class, which will feature six new faces on the floor come fall.
The Black and Gold recently wrapped up its successful spring season with an indoor/outdoor scrimmage against both host UNF and three-time defending National Champion Penn State. During the day-long event, the Knights were able to run offensive and defensive systems indoors, before heading to the beach courts for a tournament outside.
One of the highlights of the Knights' spring season was edging in-state rival USF to claim the team cup at the Fiesta on the Siesta Beach Volleyball Tournament. During the all-day event, the Knights faced teams from Miami, Florida State, Florida Gulf Coast, Jacksonville, Stetson and Notre Dame, among others.
UCF had two pairs place in the top five in the Gold Division of the competition, with the duo of Kristin Fisher (Clearwater, Fla.) and Tory McCutcheon (Milton, Ontario), as well as the pair of Meredith Murphy (Austin, Texas) and Evija Vilde (Riga, Latvia), tying for fifth in the tournament's top division.
Another impressive component of UCF's spring season was posting an 11-0 record while hosting the VolleyKnights Spring Invitational against Flagler, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida Southern, Nova Southeastern, Tampa, Stetson and West Florida.
Besides the Knights, two other organizations benefitted from the event. One hundred percent of the team entry fees and fan admission fees from the event were donated to the Central Florida Children's Home, while the P.A.V.O. was able to hold a referee and line judge clinic during the tournament.
The last, and most important, aspect of the Knights' offseason was the signing of four dynamic student-athletes. Roxy Mendez, Allison Rinderknect, Kaye-Alese Green and transfer Rachel Vukson will all join fellow newcomers Marie Reiterova and Katie Tatum, who signed with the Knights in the early signing period, for the 2010 season.
