ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Inclement weather prevented a full slate of events Thursday at the UCF Twilight, but it did not prevent a ceremony to honor the UCF track and field team's five senior student-athletes and an impressive performance by LaKendra Thames (Winter Garden, Fla.).

Only four field events were completed Thursday, with UCF athletes taking first place in three of the four. Thames managed victories in both the discus and hammer throw, posting strong efforts in each. In the discus, Thames had a top throw of 166-6/50.75m to set a personal best in the event.

Freshman Sonnisha Williams (Jacksonville, Fla.) had a good effort in winning the long jump. The freshman had a top jump of 19-2.50/5.85m, leading four Knights who had top-five finishes.

While the rain washed away a public senior day event, it did not prevent head coach Caryl Smith Gilbert from honoring her five senior student-athletes in a ceremony in the Knights' locker room. Seniors Jessica Francis, Tiki James, Ashley Kirkpatrick, Jamie Rzepecki and Erica Weitz were each honored for their time and dedication to the UCF program.

UCF will now set its sights on the 2010 Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which the program will host in Orlando from May 13-16 at the UCF Track & Field Complex.

Tickets are currently available online for the C-USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships and can also be purchased in person at the event. Ticket prices are $12 for adults and $7 for youth each day, and all session tickets cost $25 for adults and $15 for youths.

More information about the championships, including a schedule of events, records and live results, can be accessed at C-USA Championship Central.
