ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Starting Sunday, UCF and the Central Florida Sports Commission will host the Conference USA Men's Golf Championship at the RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento for the second-consecutive year. The winner will gain the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
The three-day tournament begins play Sunday at 7:30 a.m.with 18-holes scheduled for each day. Admission to the tournament is free. On Sunday, the Knights will tee off first at 8:30 a.m. along with East Carolina and Rice.
UCF claimed the C-USA title last April when senior Simon Ward (County Monagahn, Ireland) took medalist honors. The Knights went on to win the NCAA Regional title in May atRedtail, where sophomore Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) placed second. The season concluded at the NCAA Championship where the Knights finished 10th out of 30 squads.
Joining Ward and Schneider to defend the C-USA Championship title are junior Nuno Henriques (Funchal, Portugal), sophomore Connor Arendell (Cape Coral, Fla.) and freshman Reid Martin (Mukilteo, Wash.).
The playing field for this year's tournament consists of 11 C-USA schools. The Knights are currently ranked in the top-75 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Index at 52, along with four conference teams - SMU (42), Rice (61), Tulsa (66), and East Carolina (70).
