ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - On Saturday, the Knights held their annual spring game in front of a spirited crowd at Bright House Networks Stadium. After the game, select members of the squad met with members of the media.
Quarterback Rob Calabrese
On the game:
"I played pretty well today. I think there were some throws I could have made. Kamar [Aiken] made a play for me. I think the receivers did a good job going up and getting the ball today. They helped me out a lot."
On being named the starter going into the summer and what that role means:
"It's a very big role. I have to be a leader for my teammates this summer in the weight room. It makes me excited for next year. I need to put in a lot of hard work in this summer and I'm ready."
On how his confidence coming along:
"I think it's coming along. Coach (Charlie) Taaffe and (coach George) O'Leary would talk to me about that. I learned a lot from Brett [Hodges] last year just watching him go out there. I think it has helped me a lot in my game. It comes from experience and watching film and knowing what the defense is going to do. That comes with experience and I have had a lot of [game] time the last two years and now it is time for me to step up."
On what he has improved on:
"Mostly in my poise and staying calm. If I make a bad play, go on to the next play and don't worry about that. Just come back and try to make a play next time."
On Jeffrey Godfrey:
"I think he is doing a good job. He is making plays out there with his feet and he does have a very strong arm and gets the ball there. I'm impressed with what he has done so far."
On what he learned from Brett Hodges:
"He was very mature. The most important thing is poise and that is one thing I saw from Brett."
On tailback situation with Brendan Kelly and Jonathan Davis:
"I think they are both very good backs. They are very different from each other. Brendan is a north-south bruising runner who gets up the field. Jonathan Davis can make a lot of plays. I like both of them and feel comfortable with both of them back there."
Wide Receiver A.J. Guyton
On the 2010 season:
"I think we should have a very special season - a bowl game and hopefully a major bowl game. Hopefully playing in the Conference USA Championship this year. We are just trying to get all the chemistry together and be more consistent is what coach is always preaching to us. When we are more consistent on both sides of the ball we could go a long ways."
Wide Receiver Quincy McDuffie
On spring ball:
"I think it went very well. We got a lot done and I improved in some areas like blocking and catching and I made plays."On both sides, offense and defense, we are coming together. I feel like we are going to have a great season."
On his comfort this year:
"I am more comfortable than last year. I know the system more and I have been involved with it. I have a little experience with it. My confidence is higher."
