ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF sophomore guard A.J. Rompza (Chicago, Ill.) is certainly proud of his hometown. Seemingly whenever the point guard is talking about his path to Division I basketball, he always mentions that his current position would not of been possible had he had not been raised in Chicago.

His hometown has returned some love to Rompza as journalist Scott Powers has written a feature on the diminutive guard for ESPNChicago.com. The story details how Rompza overcame doubters to star at Whitney Young High School, and then earn a scholarship to UCF.

Rompza is averaging 8.8 points and 4.5 assists as a sophomore. He ranks sixth nationally in steals per game at 2.7.

The ESPNChicago.com story includes quotes from Rompza's former Whitney Young and current UCF teammate, freshman guard Marcus Jordan (Chicago, Ill.), UCF head coach Kirk Speraw and Whitney Young head coach Tyrone Slaughter.

Romzpa and the Knights will conclude the regular season on Saturday at Rice. The Conference USA Championship will begin next Wednesday in Tulsa, Okla.

In C-USA games, Rompza is third in the league in assists per game (5.1).
