AWENDAW, S.C. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's golf squad began competition at one of the nation's premier events Sunday, and the Knights are tied for 13th after one round at the Hootie at Bulls Bay. The event at the Bulls Bay Golf Club features 12 of the top-50 teams in the country.
UCF posted a 23-over 307 during the first round and is tied with Long Beach State. The Knights are five shots behind 10th-ranked Augusta State, the 12th-place squad.
No. 29 LSU sits in first at 288 (+4), followed by No. 31 Duke (289, +5).
Play will resume on Monday in South Carolina. The tournament is set to conclude on Tuesday.
UCF junior Nuno Henriques (Funchal, Portugal) and sophomore Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) are tied for 32nd at 4-over 75. Sophomore Connor Arendell (Cape Coral, Fla.) finished Sunday with a 78 (+7) and is tied for 52nd.
Senior Simon Ward (County Monaghan, Ireland) is tied for 59th (79, +8) and freshman Reid Martin (Mukilteo, Wash.) is tied for 67th at 80 (+9).
NC State's Matt Hill is the individual leader after carding a 3-under 68.
The Knights were competing for the first time since claiming the Rio Pinar Invitational title two weeks ago.
