UCF Tied for Seventh After One Round at John Hayt

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Competing against a first-class field, the UCF men's golf team is tied for seventh after Sunday's first round of the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational at the Sawgrass Country Club. UCF is currently ahead of two top-25 teams at the 15-team tournament.

The Knights recorded a 304 (+16) and are tied with 25th-ranked Tennessee and No. 33 LSU. The three teams are just one shot behind sixth-place Tulsa (303, +15).

The three-day tournament includes eight squads who are ranked among the top-35 teams in the nation. UCF is ahead of No. 23 Alabama and No. 4 Florida. The Crimson Tied are tied for 10th at 307 (+19), and Florida is 12th (310, +22).

Host No. 27 North Florida leads the field at 1-over 289, followed by No. 30 Duke (294, +6).

UCF junior Nuno Henriques (Funchal, Portugal) is tied for 18th at 75 (+3). Both sophomore Connor Arendell (Cape Coral, Fla.) and freshman Reid Martin (Mukilteo, Wash.) are tied for 28th (76, +4). After 18 holes, senior Simon Ward (County Monaghan, Ireland) is tied for 39th at 5-over 77 and sophomore Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) is tied for 50th (78, +6).

Joe Byun of North Florida sits in first after carding a 3-under 69. He was one of seven players to finish the opening round at even or below par.

The event is serving as the second tournament of the spring for the Knights.
