Box Score

CLERMONT, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Senior Hillary Barrow (Miami, Fla.) went 2-for-3 from the plate and drove in two runs Sunday afternoon, but the UCF softball team fell to Chattanooga, 4-2, on the final day of the NTC Elite Invitational at the National Training Center.

The loss dropped the Black and Gold's record to 1-2 on the season, while the Mocs improved to 2-1.

Freshman Marissa Menendez (Tampa, Fla.) and junior Abby McClain (Waterloo, Iowa) each added a hit for the Knights, while McClain and fellow junior Tiffany Lane (Moreno Valley, Calif.) both crossed the plate for the home team.

Hurler Ashleigh Cole (Pace, Fla.) was tagged with the loss in the circle after giving up two earned runs on six hits in 4.2 innings pitched.

McClain started the Knights' half of the first inning with a single through the left side. Lane joined her on the base path with a walk, before a groundout moved the runners to second and third. A two RBI single to centerfield by Barrow gave the Black and Gold a two-run advantage after one full inning of play.

UCF's bats fell silent after the first inning, however, just as Chattanooga's caught fire. The Mocs plated a single run in each of the third and fourth innings to even the score, and took a two run lead with a pair of runs in the fifth.

Rojas entered the game for the Knights in the circle with two outs in the fifth inning and held Chattanooga hitless in 2.1 innings of work. She gave up only one walk, while striking out one.

With Rojas taking care of her business, her teammates began taking care of theirs in the team's final at bat. With one out and down by two runs, Rojas was pegged by a delivery from Chattanooga's Lourdermilk to start things off. A walk allowed to Bullard put two runners on and allowed McClain to step to the plate and represent the game-winning run. But, Lourdermilk won the battle in the end to earn the save.

With Lourdermilk earning the save, Chattanooga's Nikki Waters tallied her first victory of the year.

The Knights return to the field again Wednesday when they host Stetson in their 2010 home opener at 5:30 p.m. at the UCF Softball Complex. The first 100 fans through the gate will receive an autographed 2010 UCF softball poster.
