Jimenez, Feigenbaum Invited to Puerto Rico's U-21 National Team

Dec. 17, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF men's soccer players Chris Feigenbaum (Fayetteville, Ga.) and Eduardo Jimenez (Miami, Fla.) were recently invited to join the Puerto Rico Under-21 National Team for its upcoming invite-only tryouts from Jan. 2-10, 2010.

The pair of Knights will join others at the Olympic Training facilities in Salinas, Puerto Rico for the first preparatory camp for the team's most important competition of the year, the Central American and Caribbean Games to be held in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico in July 2010. The international tournament will welcome numerous countries to Puerto Rico, including Mexico, Honduras, Columbia, Costa Rica, Venezuela and Cuba.

Feigenbaum, a sophomore from Fayetteville, Ga., played in 10 games for the Knights in 2009, making one start. Feigenbaum scored in a 3-1 victory over North Florida on Sept. 4. As a freshman in 2008, Feigenbaum started 14 contests and appeared in all 19 games, scoring one goal.

Jimenez, a freshman from Miami, Fla., started five times for UCF in 2009 and appeared in 14 games overall. The midfielder tallied an assist and his first career point in a victory over Manhattan on Sept. 20, 2009.

Head coach Bryan Cunningham's Knights posted a 6-7-3 record in 2009 with one of the country's youngest rosters. Feigenbaum and Jimenez were two underclassmen on a roster void of seniors. UCF regularly started eight freshmen, and at least six started in every game.

Despite the youth, drastic improvements were made on the offensive end. After scoring 16 goals in 19 games in 2008, UCF tallied 25 markers in 2009 in three less games. The Knights also increased their shot total by 63 and collected an astonishing 20 more assists. UCF outshot its opponents in 10 of its 16 game, and this increase improved its goals per game average from 0.84 in 2008 to 1.56 in 2009. The Knights ranked fourth in C-USA in goals per game and second in assists per game.
