ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Last December, Jermaine Taylor and USF's Dominique Jones put on an offensive show when UCF hosted the Bulls at the UCF Arena. Jones totaled 31 points, and Taylor scored 30 as the Knights posted a 71-63 win in front of a boisterous crowd of 6,695 fans.
Taylor, who is now playing in the NBA with Houston, won't be available for the Knights when UCF meets USF Wednesday at the Sun Dome in Tampa. But head coach Kirk Speraw's Knights will have to contend with Jones. The senior guard is averaging 16.4 points for the Bulls, who have impressed Speraw.
"South Florida is a much better team than a year ago. (They have) much better depth in their front line and certainly one of the premier guards in the country in Dominique Jones," said Speraw. "He is just so strong, and scores in a variety of ways. He is just a very good guard. They've got some maturity, some veteran people over there. And some new people on the front line. They have been playing awfully well. We know that is going to be a big challenge."
The Bulls (7-1) host Central Michigan Sunday. USF has won five-consecutive games, and its only loss came to South Carolina, 69-66, in Charleston, S.C. The team is 4-0 at the Sun Dome.
The Knights improved to 7-2 on the year last night with a 63-50 win over visiting Bethune-Cookman.
