ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Autumn is finally upon us and so is the UCF fall softball season. The Knights kick off their 2009 fall schedule this weekend when they host five area collegiate softball teams at the UCF Softball Complex for the UCF Tournament.
The Black and Gold will face-off with Seminole Community College, Brevard Community College, Florida Community College at Jacksonville, Miami Dade Community College and Hillsborough Community College during the event, with the tournament getting underway Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
UCF opens the tournament against Seminole CC on Oct. 10, before closing out the first day of play with back-to-back games against Brevard CC and FCCJ at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively.
Sunday's schedule has the Knights competing in the first two games of the day. Play for the home team begins at 10 a.m. against Miami Dade CC, before it concludes play in the tournament at 11:30 a.m. versus Hillsborough CC.
The Knights return four players in 2009-10 that earned postseason honors last season. Shortstop Tiffany Lane (Moreno Valley, Calif.) garnered All-C-USA First Team honors and also shared the national lead for triples after posting eight in 2009. Abby McClain (Waterloo, Iowa) grabbed a spot on the All-C-USA Second Team, the C-USA All-Academic Team and the CoSIDA Academic All-District III Second Team a year ago, while Natalie Land (Mayo, Fla.) and Vanessa Perez (San Diego, Calif.) were selected to the C-USA All-Freshman Team.
As a team, UCF finished the 2009 season with a 27-27 overall record and finished fifth in league standings with an 11-12 C-USA mark.
