George Selected as the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week

Oct. 5, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Lifting No. 21 UCF to a pair of Conference USA road victories, senior Yvonne George received C-USA Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors the league office announced Monday. It was the third time in her career, and first of the 2009 campaign, the Winter Springs native earned the accolade.

The Knights (8-3-1, 3-1-0) have now had four different players pick up C-USA weekly awards, as goalkeepers Lynzee Lee and Aline Reis and forward Courtney Whidden were selected earlier in the year.

George entered last weekend with five points and almost doubled that with four in two matches. In a 4-1 win at Marshall Oct. 2, she picked up the primary assist on Katie Jackson's game-winning goal in the first half. Then facing East Carolina in Greenville Oct. 4, George notched the game-winner herself in the 60th minute to take a 1-0 lead as the Knights went on to defeat the Pirates, 2-0.

The senior now ranks second on the team with nine points on three goals and three assists. She also is tied for the UCF lead with 23 shots in 2009. For her career, George has scored 16 goals and tallied 15 helpers for 47 points.

Tied for first place in the C-USA standings, No. 21 UCF will be home this weekend to battle UTEP Friday at 7 p.m. and Colorado College Sunday at 12 p.m., and all three teams along with Marshall and Memphis, are even at 3-1-0 in league play. Admission to both events is free.
