ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF softball team will conclude its fall season Saturday when it hosts its second tournament of the season, the UCF Fall Invitational, at the UCF Softball Complex. The squad will take on Rollins at 10:30 a.m., before finishing out the event with a 12:30 p.m. match-up with Bethune-Cookman.
Each of the games during the event will be nine innings, with no time rule in effect.
The 2009-10 squad returns four players that earned postseason honors last season. Shortstop Tiffany Lane (Moreno Valley, Calif.) garnered All-C-USA First Team honors and also shared the national lead for triples after posting eight in 2009. Abby McClain (Waterloo, Iowa) grabbed a spot on the All-C-USA Second Team, the C-USA All-Academic Team and the CoSIDA Academic All-District III Second Team a year ago, while Natalie Land (Mayo, Fla.) and Vanessa Perez (San Diego, Calif.) were selected to the C-USA All-Freshman Team.
As a team, UCF finished the 2009 season with a 27-27 overall record and finished fifth in league standings with an 11-12 C-USA mark.
Six newcomer round out the 2009-10 roster, which includes two junior college transfers, Ashley Schmitt (Tampa, Fla.) and Tawny Swan (Gilbert, Ariz.), and four freshmen, Sam Soltis (Plantation, Fla.), Marissa Menendez (Tama, Fla.), Arielle Palafox (Lakewood, Calif.) and Kazandra Holliday (Bremerton, Wash.). Each of the Knights' newcomers will see action in the pair of contests Saturday.
Rollins and Bethune-Cookman will play one another in the final game of the UCF Fall Invitational at 2:30 p.m.
