WINDERMERE, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Playing in a field that includes 12 of the top-25 squads in the nation, the UCF men's golf team is tied for 12th after Sunday's first round at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational. Play at the three-day, three-round event at the Isleworth Country Club will resume Monday.
The Knights posted a 308 (+20) during the first round and are tied with third-ranked Washington. Both UCF and the Huskies are one shot behind 11th-place Clemson. The Tigers are ranked 23rd nationally. No. 5 Stanford leads the field after 18 holes. The Cardinal recorded a 1-over 289.
Two UCF golfers - junior Nuno Henriques (Funchal, Portugal) and sophomore Connor Arendell (Cape Coral, Fla.) - are tied for 23rd at 3-over 75. Senior Simon Ward (County Monaghan, Ireland) and sophomore Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) are tied for 47th (79, +7).
Freshman Reid Martin (Mukilteo, Wash.) made his collegiate debut Sunday. He carded a 10-over 82 and is tied for 69th.
Texas Tech is hosting the tournament this year.
Eighth-ranked TCU will enter the second round in second at 290 (+2). No. 1 Oklahoma State (291, +3) is third, followed by No. 10 Florida (292, +4). Fifteen teams are competing at Isleworth.
Three players, Florida's Tim McKenney, Peter Uihlein of Oklahoma State and Steve Ziegler of Stanford, are tied for first individually at 4-under 68.
