ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - With the start of practice for the 2009-10 season just hours away, the UCF men's and women's basketball teams hosted media day Thursday afternoon at the UCF practice facility. More than 30 media members from local, regional and national print, radio and television outlets attended the event.
On the men's side, head coach Kirk Speraw fielded questions about his team's upcoming season. Members of the highly-touted freshman class were also popular with the media contingent. Sophomore A.J. Rompza, a member of the All-C-USA Freshman team a season ago, also talked about his development and role as the team's point guard.
Head women's basketball coach Joi Williams, the 2009 C-USA Coach of the Year, spoke about her team's run to the 2009 C-USA Championship and her expectations for the Knights this season. UCF returns 10 letterwinners from last season, including junior Emma Cannon, who was named the C-USA Preseason Player of the Year on Wednesday. Cannon spoke to numerous media members about the honor and her goals for the upcoming season.
College basketball teams around the country begin practice for the 2009-10 season this weekend, and the two UCF teams are no different. The men's team will hold its first official practice on Friday afternoon while the women will begin their preparations with practice on Saturday.
Season and single-game tickets for both teams are currently on sale with the UCF Ticket Office. For more information on tickets, contact the ticket office at (407) 823-1000.
