LA QUINTA, Calif. (UCFAthletics.com) - Playing far from home, the UCF men's golf team is tied for eighth after one round of play at The Prestige at PGA WEST. The Knights posted a 9-over 297 to open the tournament Sunday.
UCLA leads the field at 280 (-8). UCF is tied for eighth with No. 4 Washington and Pepperdine. Seventh-ranked Southern Cal is three shots ahead of the three teams in seventh.
The 13-team tournament includes five of the nation's top-40 squads.
A pair of Knights, junior Nuno Henriques (Funchal, Portugal) and sophomore Connor Arendell (Cape Coral, Fla.), are tied for 22nd at 1-over 73. Sophomore Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) is tied for 43rd (745, +3).
Johan de Beer of TCU and Sihawan Kim of Stanford are tied for first individually at 4-under 68.
Play at the three-day, three-round event will resume Monday.
