JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - With an impressive Saturday during day two of the North Florida Fall Invitational, the UCF women's tennis team has two singles players and one doubles team hoping for titles Sunday. One of those Knights is sophomore Alexis Rodriguez, who is still alive in the main singles draw as well as in doubles.
"Alexis is playing very solid and with confidence," said head coach Stephanie Nickitas. "She has been playing both smart and aggressive throughout the weekend. She is really on target and needs to let her confidence continue to grow."
Competing in the quarterfinals of flight A, Rodriguez cruised past Jacksonville's Eve Castaing, 6-3, 6-3, and will now meet the third-seed in Leslie Hureau of Indiana Sunday morning at 8 a.m. for the right to move on to the finals at 11:30 a.m.
Over in C singles, sophomore Taylor Dubins was up 3-1 in her second round match before Indiana's Megan Matter retired for an injury. Dubins then used a 7-5, 6-2 decision to defeat USC Upstate's Emilia Milovanovic to advance. She is set to meet Emily Mallory from Samford in the semifinals at 8 a.m. with the C singles title match at 11:30 a.m.
On the doubles court, Rodriguez and partner freshman Jenna Doerfler won both of their contests in the B draw. They will play the duo of third-seeded Madelie Janse Van Rensburg and Stephanie Parkison from Samford for the title Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
