Strong Final Round Helps Knights Place Seventh in Rhode Island

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's golf team posted a strong final round Tuesday to finish seventh out of 17 squads at the Adam's Cup of Newport at the Newport National Golf Club. UCF and tournament champion SMU both registered the top rounds of the day, recording 2-over 291s on the final 18.

The Knights concluded the three-round event at 896 (+32), just two strokes behind sixth-place Connecticut. SMU finished the tournament at 12-over 876.

Two UCF golfers placed in the top-30 individually. Senior Simon Ward (County Monaghan, Ireland) carded a 72 (E) Tuesday to tie for 24th at 8-over 224. One shot behind, junior Nuno Henriques (Funchal, Portugal) tied for 27th (225, +9).

Three Knights - sophomores Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) and Connor Arendell (Cape Coral, Fla.) and senior Devin Spies (Sarasota, Fla.) - tied for 31st at 227 (+11). Arendell posted a 2-under 70 Tuesday. Spies was making his season debut.

UCF entered the final round in seventh. The event began Monday with 36 holes.

Connecticut's Jeb Buchanan took medalist honors at 9-under 207.

UCF will return to action on Oct. 11, when play begins at the Prestige at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif.
