Knights Finish Day One in Rhode Island

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (UCFAthletics.com) - On Monday, the UCF men's golf squad joined 16 other teams for two rounds of play at the Adam's Cup of Newport at the Newport National Golf Club. As a team, the Knights posted a 29-over 605 and are in seventh at the three-round event.

The tournament will conclude Tuesday with 18 holes. The Knights posted a 297 (+9) to begin the event. In the second round, UCF totaled a 20-over 605.

New Mexico leads the field at 583 (+7), followed by Georgia Southern (584, +8).

UCF junior Nuno Henriques (Funchal, Portugal) is tied for 29th at 150 (+6). Sophomore Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) is tied for 33rd (151, +7), and senior Simon Ward is tied for 37th at 8-over 152.

Senior Devin Spies (Sarasota, Fla.) made his season debut Monday. He posted a 153 (+9) and is tied for 40th. Sophomore Connor Arendell (Cape Coral, Fla.) is also in action for UCF. The Louisville transfer is tied for 56th after carding a 157 (+13).

Connecticut's Jeb Buchanan is first after 36 holes. He recorded 2-under 69s in both rounds for a two-round total of 138 (-6).

The tournament is serving as a homecoming for new UCF head coach Bryce Wallor. An Ocean State native, Wallor played collegiately at Rhode Island from 1993-98.
