ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's golf team traditionally plays a schedule filled with some of the top events in the southeast. Starting Monday, the Knights will venture out of the southeast to play in a different region when action begins at the Adam's Cup of Newport in Rhode Island.
The two day, 54-hole tournament at the Newport National Golf Club hosted by Rhode Island features 18 teams from across the country including Connecticut, Brown, Ohio State, SMU and Southern Miss. Squads will play 36 holes Monday and one round Tuesday.
Seniors Devin Spies (Sarasota, Fla.) and Simon Ward (County Monaghan, Ireland), junior Nuno Henriques (Funchal, Portugal) and sophomores Connor Arendell (Cape Coral, Fla.) and Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) will be in action for the Knights. Every golfer but Spies played in the team's season-opening event last weekend.
The Knights began the campaign at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate in Zionsville, Ind., where they finished sixth among 16 teams. Henriques and Schneider both placed in the top-10 individually during the event.
The Adam's Cup of Newport will serve as a homecoming for first-year UCF head coach Bryce Wallor. An Ocean State native, Wallor attended Rhode Island and golfed for the Rams from 1993-98.
