UCF's Reis Selected as the NSCAA National Player of the Week

Sept. 16, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF women's sophomore goalkeeper Aline Reis (Campinas, Brazil) kept adding awards to her collection Wednesday when she was named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America National Player of the Week. Reis became just the second Knight in school history to receive the honor, as Roberta Pelarigo also earned the accolade during the 2006 campaign.

On Sept. 14, Reis was tagged as the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week. And one day later she was the lone goalkeeper given a spot on the Soccer America Team of the Week, while she also represented UCF along with teammate Courtney Whidden on the CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performers of the Week squad.

An NSCAA All-American as a freshman in 2008, Reis posted shutouts against No. 4 Florida State and USF last week, both 1-0 Knight victories. Facing the Seminoles in front of a record home crowd, she turned aside all nine shots on net, giving way to Whidden's double-overtime game-winner. Then taking on the Bulls, Reis had to make one save to help UCF boost its record to 5-1-1 this year and a No. 17 national ranking.

Although she missed two games earlier this year due to an injury, Reis and senior Lynzee Lee have combined to shut out its previous four opponents.

The Black and Gold will be concluding its non-conference schedule Friday when it hits the road to face No. 12 South Carolina at 7 p.m. It will be the fourth time in the Knights' first eight matches of 2009 that they will meet a team ranked in the top 12.

After meeting USC, UCF will return home to square off with Conference USA foes UAB Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. and Memphis Sept. 27 at 1 p.m.
