Knights Conclude Season-Opening Event

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's golf team concluded play at its season-opening event Sunday as the Knights finished sixth out of 17 teams at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate at the Wolf Run Country Club. A pair of UCF golfers, junior Nuno Henriques (Funchal, Portugal) and sophomore Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.), both placed in the top 10 individually.

As a team, the Knights carded a 17-over 301 during Sunday's final round to conclude the three-round event at 876 (+24). Michigan finished fourth, two strokes ahead of the Knights, and Iowa State was fifth at 875 (+23). Sixth-ranked Illinois took the tournament title at 5-under 847.

Henriques, who was playing in his first collegiate tournament since the 2007-08 campaign, tied for seventh at 1-over 214. Schneider tied for 10th (217, +4) after recording a 2-over 73 on the final 18.

The Knights entered Sunday's final round in third.

Sophomore Connor Arendell (Cape Coral, Fla.) and freshmen Andrew Colvin (Longwood, Fla.) both made their UCF debuts at the event in Indiana. Arendell, a transfer from Louisville, tied for 42nd at 226 (+13). Colvin tied for 47th (227, +14) in his collegiate debut. Senior Simon Ward (County Monaghan, Ireland) also competed for the Knights.

Led by tournament medalist Sean Dale (202, -11), North Florida placed second at 860. Host Indiana was third, 11 strokes behind the Ospreys.

The tournament was the first for Bryce Wallor as UCF's head coach. He was tabbed as program's leader in August. UCF will return to action on Sept. 21, competing at Adam's Cup of Newport Collegiate Invitational in Rhode Island.
