UCF Volleyball Concludes Six-Match Roadswing Against High Point, UNC Greensboro

Sept. 10, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF volleyball team concludes a season-long six-match roadswing Friday when they travel to Greensboro, N.C., for a doubleheader against High Point and UNC Greensboro. The Knights face off with the Panthers at 1 p.m., before taking on the host Spartans at 7 p.m.

Live stats will be available for both matches on UCFAthletics.com.

UCF will be meeting High Point on the volleyball court for the first time in program history, while it will be going head-to-head with UNC Greensboro for the first time since 1976. In that match, the Black and Gold won 2-0 (15-1, 15-1) and went on to post a 41-15 overall record.

The Black and Gold enter Friday's doubleheader with a 6-2 record on the season, its best start since 2001, after posting a 1-2 record at the Baylor Classic last weekend.

The Knights are 4-1 in three-set matches in 2009 and are a perfect 2-0 in four-set matches, which includes a 3-1 win over UTSA to close out the Baylor Classic.

Freshman Meredith Murphy (Austin, Texas) was named to the Baylor Classic All-Tournament Team at the event after pacing the Knights' defense with 59 digs in the squad's three matches, an average of 4.92 digs per set. On the season, Murphy ranks sixth in Conference USA, and second among freshmen in the league, with a 4.43 digs-per-game average and has totaled a team-high 124 digs.

High Point is 6-4 on the season going into Friday's meeting with the Knights following back-to-back 3-0 losses to Marshall and Elon last week. Prior to the pair of defeats, the Panthers were swept by Davidson before coming back to beat UNC Charlotte and Winston-Salem State while hosting the High Point Classic.

Just like High Point, UNC Greensboro also fell at the hands of C-USA's Thundering Herd, 3-0, in its home-opener Wednesday to drop its record to an even 4-4 on the season. The Spartans picked up two wins last weekend on the road at the South Carolina Tournament against Coastal Carolina and Eastern Kentucky, before falling to host South Carolina to close out the event.

Season tickets for the 2009 season are still available for only $30, with the Knights hosting 13 more regular-season matches at The Venue at UCF this year.
