ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's soccer team hit the practice field for the first time on Saturday, beginning their preparations for the 2009 season. Head coach Bryan Cunningham welcomed over 30 players to campus, and the team got to work right away with two practices.
UCF gets their 2009 season underway in just over two weeks, traveling to Tampa on Sept. 1 to play at 11th-ranked USF. A season ago, the Knights battled USF to a scoreless tie in regulation before falling 1-0 in overtime.
Sophomore Kevan George (Decatur, Ga.) headlines the returners for Cunningham's squad. As a freshman in 2008, George led the team with four goals and 10 points and was named to the All-Conference USA first-team, the only freshman in the league to be voted onto the squad.
Other returning players that will be counted on in 2009 are juniors Yaron Bacher (Atlanta, Ga.) and Camilo Rendon (Miami, Fla.), who both started each of UCF's game a year ago after transferring into the program.
After playing at USF, the Knights will host North Florida in their home opener at 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 4 in the second game of the UCF Fall Classic.
