ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After putting together a remarkable performance at the plate this weekend for the UCF softball team, sophomore Tiffany Lane (Moreno Valley, Calif.) has been tabbed Conference USA's Hitter of the Week, the league office announced on Monday morning. The weekly honor is Lane's first in 2009 and the second of her career. She also earned the distinction on March 17, 2008.
Lane recorded a .727 batting average, going 8-for-11 at the plate with five RBI, two runs scored and three stolen bases in the league series against UTEP last weekend to help the Knights secure the No. 5 seed heading into the C-USA Championship presented by Helen of Troy beginning Thursday. The sophomore tallied a .818 slugging percentage and a .750 on-base percentage during the series, while accounting for seven of UCF's 11 total runs on the weekend.
In Saturday's doubleheader, Lane posted back-to-back three-hit outings and accounted for three of UCF's four RBI in the opening contest, while driving in two runners and scoring a run in the nightcap.
Lane would close out her outstanding weekend with a 2-for-3 performance on Sunday, adding a double, a run scored and two stolen bases.
The sophomore also improved her overall batting average to a team-leading .357 with her performance last weekend. Lane now paces the Knights in four offensive categories in 2009, while leading the nation in triples with eight.
The Black and Gold will look to defend its C-USA Championship title beginning May 7 when it takes on Marshall at 2 p.m. ET in El Paso, Texas for the 2009 C-USA Championship presented by Helen of Troy.
