UCF Fastbreak - May 14

May 14, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Led by guard Jermaine Taylor (Tavares, Fla.), the Knights made their mark in the national statistical rankings in 2008-09. An All-America selection, Taylor finished his senior campaign in the top-100 nationally in three categories, most notably scoring, where he ranked third at 26.2 points per game.

The Conference USA Player of the Year was also 28th in 3-pointers made per game (3.0) and 55th in 3-point field goal percentage (37.6).

As a team, the Knights were 23rd in the country in free-throw percentage, shooting at a 74.7 percent clip at the charity stripe. The squad was 41st in assists, recording 15.4 a contest. In assist-turnover ratio, UCF ranked 81st at 1.07.

UCF's prominence in the two assist categories had much to do with guards A.J. Rompza (Chicago, Ill.) and Taylor Young (Orlando, Fla.). A C-USA All-Freshman Team pick, Rompza averaged 5.2 assists, good for 32nd in the nation. His assist-turnover ratio (2.38) ranked 23rd.

At one point during the campaign, Young led the country in the category. He finished the year ranked 12th at 2.72.
