ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF track and field team wrapped up its regular season Sunday, hosting the UCF Twilight at the UCF track and field complex. Senior Shantile Blackburn (Brooklyn, N.Y.) again put her name in the UCF record book, breaking Karen Kozub's previous school record in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:33.61.
Junior LaKendra Thames (Winter Garden, Fla.) set a personal best in the discus, winning the event with a top toss of 161-10/49.34. The mark was also an NCAA regional qualifier. Thames also took the victory in the hammer throw with a best mark 162-01/49.41m.
Dione Thomas (Jacksonville, Fla.), another UCF senior, claimed first in the triple jump with her best mark of the season. Thomas posted an NCAA regional qualifier with a mark of 41-4.25/12.60 (N).
Freshman Sheila Paul (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.) tied her own school and freshman record in the 100-meter dash, crossing the line in 11.69 seconds.
School record holder Kelsey Poljansek (Milton, Kan.) posted another NCAA regional qualifier in the shot put, finishing second with a best throw of 48-0.50/14.64.
Freshman Jackie Coward (Knoxville, Tenn.) and sophomore Micaela Wimberly (Miami, Fla.) both had NCAA regional qualifiers in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 13.61 and 13.76 seconds respectively.
The UCF 4x100-meter relay team of Tiki James (Miami, Fla.), Lizzie Harris (Miami, Fla.), Thomas and Paul had a regional qualifying time, finishing in 45.56 seconds.
UCF will travel to Tulsa, Okla., this week to compete in the Conference USA Championships.
