UCF Men's Golf to Compete in Augusta

April 3, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Before the Masters begins next week, college golf will be on center stage in Augusta, Ga., when competition begins at the Adminstaff ASU Invitational at the Forest Hills Golf Club. The 15th-ranked UCF men's golf team is scheduled to participate in the two-day, three-round event, which begins Saturday.

Seventeen squads will play two rounds Saturday and 18 holes Sunday. The field includes nine teams ranked in the top-50 nationally, including No. 12 Tennessee.

The Knights will be competing in their second event this week. On Tuesday, head coach Nick Clinard's squad finished fourth at the Hootie at Bulls Bay in Awendaw, S.C. UCF ended the 15-team tournament ahead of several ranked squads, most notably No. 5 Clemson.

Freshman Blayne Barber (Lake City, Fla.) concluded the event tied for eighth at 210 (-3). The performance was the fourth top-10 showing for Barber in 2008-09. He was one of four Knights who finished in the top-25 of the individual standings.

All five Knights who played earlier in the week will be in action in Augusta. Joining Barber in the lineup will be senior David Johnson (Palm City, Fla.), junior Simon Ward (County Monaghan, Ireland), sophomore Jed Dirksen (Hampton, Iowa) and redshirt freshman Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.).

UCLA won the ASU Invitational a year ago. Augusta State serves as the tournament host.

Live statistics will be available on Golfstat.com.
