Senior Spotlight: Lexi Gresham

April 29, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF softball team will be hosting its final regular-season game of the 2009 season Sunday at noon at the UCF Softball Complex against Conference USA-foe UTEP. But, the contest will not only serve as the last home game of 2009 for the Knights, but will also serve as Senior Day, the last game in the careers of seniors Lexi Gresham (Fresno, Calif.), Magon Paul (Virginia Beach, Va.), Lindsay Dean (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Breanne Javier (Castaic, Calif.). Members of the UCFAthletics.com staff recently sat down with Gresham to get her feelings about the end of her career at UCF.

Talk about your past four seasons at UCF
"My past four seasons have been really fun with all the girls, and I have enjoyed the team atmosphere, especially since I am far away from home. I really enjoyed my junior season when I played most of the year in the outfield."

What is your favorite memory of your time at UCF?
"Winning the conference championship on Houston's home field against Houston."

What is something you will be able to take away from your experience as a Knight?
"I will take away the ability to overcome obstacles. I have had a lot of injuries in my time at UCF, and just being able to overcome different things that have come at me is something that has been rewarding."

Do you think Sunday's game will be emotional for you?
"Definitely because it is going to be the last time that we step on the field at UCF."

Who would you like to fill your shoes next season?
"I would choose Mary Helen (Tyler) to step up and be that leader next year. She is a great leader and a great motivator and is always stepping up when we need someone to. People look up to her for leadership and guidance on and off the field."

What has been the most rewarding part of playing softball at UCF?
"I guess being able to continue being on a team four years after high school. I also enjoyed building my friendships over the past four years."

What legacy would you like to leave for your teammates?
"It would be that everyone keeps wearing shiny headbands like I do and also keeps wearing the type of braids in their hair that I do in everybody's hair."
