Shane Brown Receives Bright House Student-Athlete of the Week for Record Week in Baseball

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF baseball junior Shane Brown (Winter Park, Fla.) can add the Bright House Student-Athlete of the Week award to his collection of honors for his performance this past week. The Knights' second baseman tied an NCAA record by reaching base in 18 consecutive plate appearances and posted a .722 batting average for the week.

Brown hit 13-of-18 in four games during the week, and was triple short of hitting for the cycle in two of those games. Overall, he scored 10 runs and had five doubles and two homers, striking out just once. In the UAB series alone, Brown got on base 17 of 18 times, going 11-for-13 with a .846 average against the Blazers.

Brown turned a triple play of awards for the week, earning three for his performance. He garnered national attention with CBN Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week honors and Conference USA Hitter of the Week recognition and in addition to being the Bright House Student-Athlete of the Week.

The Knights went 3-1 during Brown's hot streak at the plate; taking 2-of-3 from conference opponent UAB and defeating cross-town rival Stetson on Tuesday 13-12 after being down 10-0. UCF (15-26, 5-10) gets back to work this Tuesday when it welcomes USF to town at 6:30 p.m.
