UCF Rowing Wins Three on Final Day of Lake Natoma Invitational

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF rowing team picked up three wins on the final day of competition at the Lake Natoma Invitational in Rancho Cordova, Calif., Sunday, with the Knights' varsity four, second varsity eight and novice eight crews all earning wins against Texas, Sacramento State and Cal.

Coxswain Victoria Ortiz, Jessica Veeneman, Amanda Schimian, Tanis Franchuk and Emma Gresson rowed the varsity-four boat to its second-straight victory in as many races, defeating the Longhorns and the Hornets with a time of 7:38.00.

The Knights' second varsity eight, made up of coxswain Brittany Skidmore, Alyson Davis, Taylor Wiatt, Stephanie Adams, Danielle Leen, Jordynn Pauls, Tara Rogers, Lauren Hampson and Nicole Hoag, followed suit, taking home first-place honors against both Texas and Sacramento State, clocking in at 6:53.50.

With a time of 6:45.77, UCF's varsity eight was narrowly defeated by the competition in their final race. The Hornets crossed the finish line first in 6:41.80, while the Longhorns finished only a little over half a second behind in 6:42.37 for second place.

UCF's novice eight boat won its seventh race of the season in the event-finale, crossing the finish line first in a time of 6:53.20, almost seven seconds ahead of Cal (7:00.38) and more than 17 seconds ahead of Sacramento State (7:10.93).

The rowing team will have close to a month off before hitting the water again for the South/Central Regional Championship on May 16-17 in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
