GREENVILLE, N.C. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF softball team could only come up with six hits, as it suffered a pair of, 3-0, losses to Conference USA-foe East Carolina Saturday at the ECU Softball Field. The Knights' record falls to 16-19 overall and 2-6 in league play with the two defeats.

Magon Paul (Virginia Beach, Va.) was tagged with the loss in the circle in the opening game, despite giving up only one earned run on nine hits in 5.2 innings of work. The loss dropped Paul's record to 2-6 on the season. Kristina DeMello (Mead, Wash.) pitched 0.1 innings of relief to finish off the game.

Senior Breanne Javier (Castaic, Calif.) recorded the only hit for the Black and Gold in the contest, while both Hillary Barrow (Miami, Fla.) and Mary Helen Tyler (Marianna, Fla.) drew walks for the visiting Knights.

The game remained scoreless through four innings, before a two-RBI single by ECU's Jessica Johnson put the Pirates on the board in the fifth. Another run crossed for the home team in the sixth inning after hurler Toni Paisley hit a solo home run to centerfield, handing UCF a three-run deficit.

The Black and Gold started to pick up some steam late in the game, as Javier broke up Paisley's no-hitter with two outs in the seventh inning, hitting a single to left-centerfield. A walk issued to Barrow put the tying run at the plate for UCF, but Paisley's seventh strikeout of the game ended the Knights' rally.

In game no. 2, neither team could get a run across the plate through five and one-half innings, before the Pirates loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth frame and scored three runs on a pair of wild pitches delivered by UCF starter Ashleigh Cole (Pace, Fla.). The Knights were not able to get the trio of runs back in the seventh inning, though, as Paisley came in relief to get the win for the Pirates.

The loss in the circle was issued to Cole, dropping her record to 10-6 on the year. The junior gave up three runs on five hits in 5.2 innings of work. DeMello would once again come in relief to finish the game for the Knights, posting a strikeout against the only batter she faced.

Barrow paced the Black and Gold at the plate in the second game, posting two hits for the visiting team, while Javier, Vanessa Perez (San Diego, Calif.) and Lindsay Dean (Jacksonville, Fla.) each added a hit.

The Black and Gold concludes its three-game series at East Carolina with a single game Sunday at Noon.
