Reis Continues To Rack Up National Awards

Dec. 16, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Already having been named a NSCAA All-American, UCF women's soccer goalkeeper Aline Reis (Campinas, Brazil) picked up another award Tuesday as she was selected to the Soccer America All-Freshman Second Team. Reis became just the second Knight in program history to garner Soccer America all-freshman honors (Kelly Kochevar, 1991).

In 2008, Reis was serving as UCF's first freshman starting keeper since 1995, which also was the last time a Knight received All-American recognition when Amy Jones earned the accolade. Meanwhile, Reis earned a spot on the All-Conference USA Second Team, the All-C-USA Freshman Team and the C-USA All-Tournament Team as well this season. She helped UCF reach the NCAA Tournament Second Round and finish with an overall record of 14-6-3.

A four-time C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honoree, Reis tied for fifth on UCF's single-season list with 107 saves while starting 21 of 22 matches. She placed second in the league in saves and shutouts (six). But Reis quickly became known for having a small stature at 5-foot-3 and still being able to make some highlight-reel saves all year long.¬¬

Reis was a member of the 2007 squad, but received a redshirt by sitting out the entire season due to a leg injury.
