ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - One of the best long-distance shooters in school history, Harry Kennedy spent just two years in Orlando, but still made his mark on the UCF record book. Kennedy connected on 175 3-pointers from 1995-97.
He finished his career as the school's all-time leader in triples. Today, he ranks fifth all-time in the category.
Kennedy made an immediate impact with the Knights after transferring from Miami-Dade Community College. He averaged a team-high 17.2 points and connected on a then school-record 94 3-pointers. Against Jacksonville State, he established a school record with eight treys.
Kennedy was a big reason why the Knights won three contests to claim the Atlantic Sun Championship. Kennedy averaged 20.3 points per game in the three victories. The 6-foot-5 sharpshooter nearly defeated first-round opponent Southeastern Louisiana on his own as he scored eight of his game-high 23 points in UCF's 14-4 run to close the game that gave the Knights an 83-80 come-from-behind victory. At the conclusion of the tournament, he garnered MVP honors.
Playing for head coach Kirk Speraw, Kennedy drained four treys and totaled a team-high 21 points against Massachusetts in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Providence, R.I.
As a senior, he paced the Knights in scoring on 21 occasions and averaged 17.5 points. He hit 81 3-pointers during the year. Kennedy garnered All-A-Sun Second Team honors that season.
UCF's 2008-09 team will return to action Saturday, facing South Dakota State at the Cancun Challenge in Mexico. The Knights' next home contest is set for Dec. 6 against cross-state foe USF.
