ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF senior men's soccer player Ryan Roushandel (Atlanta, Ga.) has been named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team for the second-straight season. With the honor, the defender becomes a repeat selection on both the all-academic squad and the all-conference second team.
One of three seniors on the team, Roushandel switched positions this season from forward to defender to help the young Knights. The move paid dividends and he helped UCF to five shutouts and a trip to the C-USA Tournament semifinals. From the backline, Roushandel also scored three goals, with a pair of markers in a 3-1 win and the game-tying goal in UCF's 1-1 tie at South Carolina.
The Atlanta native is a business finance major with a 3.52 GPA. He has been a member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll on numerous occasions. Roushandel transferred from Clemson after his first season with the Knights and had a standout career, playing 54 games with UCF and scoring 13 goals with four assists.
With seven wins in 2008, UCF had its most victories since winning seven games in 2005. The Knights tied their previous record with three Conference USA wins, and also won a conference tournament game for the first time.
