UCF Men's Basketball Top 40 - James Walker

Nov. 20, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - James Walker made the most of his time in Orlando. The 6-foot-6 forward started 57 games with the Knights and helped guide the squad to the 1994 NCAA Tournament.

Walker arrived at UCF in 1992 after two seasons at Dodge City Community College in Kansas. He made an immediate contribution on the front court.

The Flint, Mich., native led the team on the glass, grabbing 7.8 boards per game as a junior. Walker shot 57.1 percent from the floor and averaged 9.7 points. The hard-nosed Walker recorded a 16-rebound performance in a game versus Centenary.

A year later, he continued his solid play under first-year head coach Kirk Speraw. Walker started all 30 contests for the Knights and averaged 7.8 points and a team-best 7.5 rebounds. The Knights won 21 contests in 1993-94 and played in the NCAA Tournament for the first time at the Division I level after claiming the Atlantic Sun Championship crown.

In two campaigns in Orlando, Walker grabbed 436 boards.

Speraw's 2008-09 Knights will return to the hardwood on Saturday, playing at New Mexico. The squad's next home contest at the UCF Arena is set for Dec. 6 against cross-state foe USF. Season tickets, which begin at just $99, are still available.
