ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Sophomore Yaron Bacher (Atlanta, Ga.) and freshman Kevan George (Decatur, Ga.) have been named to the Conference USA men's soccer all-tournament team, the league office announced Sunday at the conclusion of the tournament.
The two midfielders were key contributors during the Knights' run to the semifinals, where the sixth-seeded Knights fell to second-seeded Kentucky 1-0. George, a C-USA All-Conference first team selection, tallied an assist in UCF's 1-0 win over Memphis in the quarterfinals. George led UCF with four goals and 10 points.
Bacher, a sophomore transfer, played solidly in the midfield during the tourney and throughout the 2008 season. He led the Knights in shots with 44 while scoring twice and dishing out three assists.
"I am proud of their efforts, not only during the tournament but also throughout the entire season," said UCF head coach Bryan Cunningham. "It is nice to see them rewarded for their strong play during the tournament."
With seven wins in 2008, UCF had its most victories since winning seven games in 2005. The Knights tied their previous record with three Conference USA wins, and also won a conference tournament game for the first time.
