Oct. 9, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's soccer team will be logging well over 3,500 miles this weekend when it travels to UTEP and Colorado College for a pair of Conference USA matches. The Knights get together with the Miners Friday at 9 p.m. ET, then meet the Tigers Sunday at 2 p.m. ET. Video and live stats courtesy of both schools are available on UCFAthletics.com.

Holding a 7-3-2 overall record and a 2-1-1 mark in C-USA, UCF sits in fourth place in the league standings but just three points behind East Carolina. Colorado College is in a tie for second at 3-1-0 (9-3-1 overall) while UTEP is in a four-way tie for fifth at 2-2-0 (9-4-0).

The Knights currently pace C-USA in the NCAA's first RPI standings, securing the No. 26 position. They are followed by Rice (No. 37) and Colorado College (No. 38). The Black and Gold went 1-0-1 last weekend, shutting out Marshall, 4-0, and playing East Carolina to a 1-1 draw at home.

One of the key components of the UCF offense has been junior Yvonne George. The Winter Springs native stands in second place in C-USA with six assists and eighth overall with 10 points. On the opposite end of the field, freshman Aline Reis (Campinas, Brazil) has racked up 55 saves in net.

UTEP opened the year with a 5-0-0 start with the first four wins coming by a one-goal margin. In conference play, it has topped Tulsa and UAB but suffered losses against SMU and Memphis. Cortney Casey has been the clutch performer this year for the Miners, as she paces the league with three game-winning goals.

Colorado College also got off to a quick start, going 6-0-1 and entering the top 25 rankings. But the Tigers then suffered losses to Illinois and Purdue only to bounce back to earn C-USA wins over SMU, UAB and Memphis (only loss was to Tulsa). Tiffany Brown leads C-USA with 15 total points this season, including six goals and three assists.
