Oct. 7, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Along with the positive headlines the UCF baseball program received all summer long for the addition of its new coaching staff, the Knights are still garnering media interest in the fall. This week, SEBaseball.com focused its attention on head coach Terry Rooney in an online feature story.

Rooney and the Knights are currently in week three of their fall season. Practices are held every morning during the week with an evening session Sunday nights. The campaign wraps up Oct. 21-23 with the Black & Gold World Series, a three-game intrasquad battle with each contest getting underway at 8:30 a.m.

That series will be the perfect opportunity for fans to check out the 2009 edition of the Knights. So far in the fall, several returning players have been testing different positions, such as first baseman Kiko Vazquez at catcher and third base, shortstop Eric Kallstrom at second base, infielder Shane Brown behind the plate and third baseman Chris Duffy in the outfield. There are also nine newcomers vying to earn playing time right away, while several pitchers are working extremely hard to prepare for a regular-season schedule that tentatively features 56 games from Feb. 20-May 16

After the fall, UCF will be back after the holidays to get ready for Opening Day 2009 Feb. 20 vs. Virginia Commonwealth. UCFAthletics.com will have all of the ticket information online when it becomes available.
