DeLand, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's rowing team began its fall season Saturday at the Hatter Classic in DeLand, Fla., with two of the Knights' four boats finishing in the top-two spots in the Freshman Novice 8+ event.
The UCF "A" boat of cox Autumn Moeller, Nina Morgan, Allisha Campaigne, Janaye Radtke, Michelle Haves, Tina Bechtold, Chelsey Green, Margaret Lahmeyer and Alanna Alvarez took home first-place honors in the event in a time of 19:00 flat, while the UCF "B" boat of cox Tori Bernard, Loni Pretziner, Lucia Pinelli, Claire Frenkel, Rebecca Livesay, Caitlin Matthews, Lily Guy, Katie Wieland and Kristen Novo finished in a close second, posting a time of 19:26.
Host Stetson finished the event in 21:48 to claim third place honors. UCF "C" finished the race in fourth place with a time of 21:52, and the fourth and final boat on the water for the Knights finished in fifth place after scratching in the event.
The Black and Gold concludes its fall season next weekend when it participates in the Head of the Hooch Regatta in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Collegiate Novice events are limited to college scullers, rowers, and coxswains in either University/College Club or NCAA programs who have been competing for one year or less as of the Regatta Day. Experience in sculling events does not count as experience in sweep events and vice versa. Previous junior/high school rowing experience is allowed in this category.
