ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - With the start of the 2008-09 campaign less than a month away, UCF head coach Kirk Speraw will hit the airwaves on Tuesday morning to talk about his Knights. Speraw is scheduled to appear on The Beat of Sports on 1190 AM in Orlando at 10:15 a.m.
The program is hosted by Orlando Sentinel columnist Mike Bianchi and UCF radio play-by-play voice Marc Daniels. Daniels is entering his 14th year calling UCF basketball.
Speraw's Knights officially opened practice last Friday. The squad's season opener is slated for Nov. 16 at the new UCF Arena against North Carolina A&T.
UCF has a young squad, but returns one of the nation's premier players in senior guard Jermaine Taylor (Tavares, Fla.). An All-Conference USA Preseason Team selection, he averaged 20.8 points per game in 2007-08. Taylor begins this year as the 10th-leading returning scorer in the country.
One of the longest-tenured head coaches in the nation, Speraw is in his 16th campaign in Orlando.
UCF fans can listen to Speraw on The Beat of Sports by visiting 1190wamt.com. The show airs each weekday morning, starting at 9 a.m.
The Knights are scheduled to play 16 regular-season contests at the new UCF Arena, including a matchup with cross-state foe USF on Dec. 6 and a C-USA showdown with national power Memphis on Jan. 10.
