Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF men's soccer team took on its second-straight ranked foe Friday night, falling 2-0 at 12th-ranked Tulsa (9-3-1, 5-0-0 C-USA) in Conference USA action. With the loss, the Knights fall to 6-7-0 on the season and 3-2-0 in league play.
The game remained scoreless until late in the first half when Austin Neil scored his sixth goal of the season off a pass from Jeovahnni Sandez. The Golden Hurricane tallied an insurance goal early in the second half, getting a 63rd minute tally from Jose Parada on a feed from Corey Albertson.
"It was a tough loss against a very good Tulsa team," said UCF head coach Bryan Cunningham. "We have to regroup and prepare to play another very good C-USA team in Kentucky."
Sophomore Sean Johnson (Lilburn, Ga.) kept the game close with nine saves in goal for UCF. Johnson, the league leader in that category, made several nice stops to give the Knights a chance at the comeback.
The offense was unable to find many opportunities to strike against the Tulsa defense, attempting just three shots in the game. Kyle Ellis (Bear, Del.), Yaron Bacher (Atlanta, Ga.) and Kyle McEntee (Boca Raton, Fla.) each fired a shot for the Knights.
UCF returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to Lexington, Ky., for a 7 p.m. contest with Kentucky. The Knights next home game is Saturday, Oct. 25, when they host 24th-ranked SMU at 7 p.m.
