ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - After redshirting the 2007 season, UCF women's soccer freshman goalkeeper Aline Reis is quickly forming a human wall in front of the net, and her efforts were rewarded on Monday. The Conference USA office announced that the Campinas, Brazil, native earned C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honors in helping the Knights (3-1-1 overall) post a 1-0-1 record in California last weekend.
The trip to the Golden State was only Reis' second week of collegiate competition, but she looked like a veteran against Pacific and UC Davis. Taking on the Tigers Sept. 5, she made 10 saves in a 1-0 victory, marking her third-straight shutout this season. Reis then collected five saves in a 2-2 draw vs. the Aggies two days later.
So far this season, Reis amassed a shutout streak of 366:30 and that included blanking Florida, Hartford and Pacific. She has played all 470 minutes in goal, accumulating 30 saves and lowering her goals-against average to 1.34. Meanwhile, Reis' save percentage stands at .811.
Reis' honor is the second-consecutive weekly accolade handed out to a Knight in 2008, as junior Yvonne George was the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week Sept. 1.
Back home in Orlando, UCF will play host to Illinois State Friday at 7 p.m. and No. 11 Illinois Sunday at noon. All matches are free to the public.
