CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Visiting UCF (4-4-0) battled tough on the road in the first half at highly-regarded Charlotte (8-1-0) Tuesday night, but the 49ers tallied a goal in the first half and added three insurance goals late to post a 4-0 victory in non-conference men's soccer action.
Charlotte, just outside of the top 25 in the most recent NSCAA/adidas national poll, extends their winning streak to six games with the victory.
"It is a tough loss on the road against a very good team," said head coach Bryan Cunningham. "The boys have been resilient all season and we will come back and get ready for a conference game Saturday against Marshall."
Leading 1-0 thirty minutes into the second half, Charlotte tallied three goals over the final 15 minute span to extend its lead to 3-0.
The Knights and 49ers each tallied five shots on goal in an even first half of play, but could not get on the board. Freshman Kyle McEntee (Boca Raton, Fla.) had the best opportunity for UCF in the 42nd minute, but had back-to-back shots saved by Charlotte keeper David Martin.
Charlotte put a dent in the scoreboard in the 27th minute when Isaac Caughran knocked a shot past UCF keeper Sean Johnson (Lilburn, Ga.) for a 1-0 lead.
Sophomore Yaron Bacher (Atlanta, Ga.) fired four shots on goal to lead the Knights. Charlotte finished the game with an 18-8 edge in shots.
UCF plays again Saturday, returning to Conference USA action to play at Marshall at 7 p.m.
