ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Looking to extend a three-game winning streak, UCF's men's soccer team travels to play a non-conference game at Charlotte Tuesday. The kick-off against the 49ers in Charlotte, N.C., is slated for 7 p.m.
"The game will be another tough test on the road against a very good Charlotte team," said head coach Bryan Cunningham.
UCF enters the game at 4-3-0 after consecutive victories against Old Dominion, Memphis and North Florida. Last Wednesday, senior Ryan Roushandel (Atlanta, Ga.) scored his first two goals of the season as the Knights defeated North Florida 3-1.
The Knights' recent success has been noticed as this week UCF finds itself in the NSCAA/adidas South Region poll for the third-straight week at seventh.
Charlotte is currently 7-1-0 and riding a five-game winning streak. The 49ers are receiving votes in the NSCAA/adidas national poll and ranked second in the Mid-Atlantic Region. The team's lone loss came on Sept. 12, when they fell to Coastal Carolina 2-1 in overtime.
The 49ers have outscored their opponents 20-8 in the eight games, and hold a 123-72 edge in shots. Chris Salvaggione leads Charlotte and is tied for second nationally with eight goals and 19 points.
Sophomore Sean Johnson (Lilburn, Ga.) and the defense have posted three shutouts this season for UCF. Johnson is currently tied for second in C-USA in saves with 38, first in saves per game (5.83) and second in save percentage (.857) while also being ranked 14th nationally in saves per game.
Charlotte leads the all-time series with UCF 3-0-0, including a 3-0 win in Orlando on Oct. 3, 2007.
