Men's Golf Heads to the Midwest

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's golf team will return to action on Friday when the team takes part in the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational in Olympia Fields, Ill. This weekend's tournament is an early test for some on of the top programs in the nation, and will be played at the Olympia Fields North Course.

The three day 54-hole tournament ends on Sunday, and features three of the top four teams from last year's NCAA Championship. Seven of the top 30 teams in the nation according to the GolfWorld/Nike Golf preseason rankings will be in action: UCLA (1), Oklahoma State (2), Stanford (5), Florida State (11), Arizona State (12), Indiana (20) and Texas (24). Illinois is hosting the event.

This past weekend, the Knights took part in the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Georgia. UCF placed 14th, and freshman Blayne Barber (Lake City, Fla.) tied for 10th overall. As a result of his play, Barber was named the Conference USA Men's Golfer of the Week.

In addition to Barber, seniors Greg Forest (Palm City, Fla.) and David Johnson (Palm Bay, Fla.), junior Simon Ward (County Monagahn, Ireland) and redshirt freshman Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) will all be competing in the tournament this weekend.
